Head of the Ohio Delivers Success Close to Home

USC Rowing had an action-packed weekend!

Not only was it Upper Saint Clair’s Homecoming weekend, but our USC Rowing team competed in the Head of the Ohio regatta in our very own downtown Pittsburgh!

On an unusually sunny and warm Pittsburgh autumn day, our team joined over 50 other teams in the regatta weekend. Rowing from Washington’s Landing down to the Point, it was an intense 5k race under more than a few bridges crossing Pittsburgh’s Allegheny River. As one rower said, “I never realized just how far away the 16th Street Bridge is from the 9th Street Bridge!”

The team once again brought home some shiny objects. In the Women’s Youth Novice 4x, USC Rowing achieved both second and fourth place finishes. Hadley Maxwell continued her winning streak, bowing the second-place 4x with Pittsburgh Rowing Club’s Mady Durr, Kyriaki Smith, and Hadley Rideout.  USC Rowing co-captain Katie Casali, Tamira Ghattamneni, Pittsburgh Rowing Club’s Caroline Kain, and new freshman team member Leyla Ozturk brought home fourth place in the race.

Later in the day, Hadley Maxwell and Hadley Rideout teamed up again for a third-place finish in the Women’s Youth Novice 2x.

Other highlights include a fourth-place finish for the Men’s Youth U17 4+ team of Linus Rizer, James Conner, Blake Uffelman, Mason Irwin and coxswain Brandon Donnelly, and multiple fifth and sixth place finishes for the team.

This was an exciting second regatta, with new team achievements, first time races, and new team members attending their first regatta. With this second regatta of the fall season in the books, it is on to the Jack Speakmon Memorial Regatta in Columbus, Ohio, on October 26th!
